The final project of my Scene Design class was to design Hansel and Gretel: The Opera for a proscenium stage. My goal was to keep the story book aspect of the fairytale still present through using mostly 2D set pieces. I also wanted to emphasize the dark moments a little more than the original story portrayed it; the introduction to the Witch’s house makes it look more like a haunted house than something enticing.
